The Winona Transit Service has suspended the collection of all fares for the rest of the year in order to help limit the transmission of COVID-19.
Riders will not have to pay for any rides on the service for the remainder of 2020. April bus passes will be honored in May. The city will announce any updates or changes closer to the date.
In response to the COVID-19 virus, Winona Transit will begin running on an altered schedule effective Friday, March 20, 2020. The buses will run 2 complete routes and then will be stop so that the bus interior can be cleaned and sanitized. The third route would be cancelled, and the buses will resume running the fourth and fifth route, then stop again. This would be repeated for the remainder of the day. See the attached time schedule.
In support of the Minnesota Department of Health’s recommendation to practice social distancing, Winona Transit is asking people who must take transit to do so for essential travel only. Reducing demand will make our service safer for those who depend on it, and for those who operate it.
Those who must take transit should use discretion, take action to prevent the spread of germs, and consider alternative transportation modes if concerned. When taking transit, riders are asked to practice social distancing and leave space between themselves and other passengers and the operator. Passengers should support these efforts by:
- Regularly and thoroughly washing hands
- Coughing/sneezing into a tissue or a sleeve
- Staying home when you feel sick
