Banned Books Week is October 1st – 7th, and the Winona Public Library has two events to help celebrate the occasion.

First, attend the newly created book club, I’m With the Banned on Monday, October 2nd at 4:30pm in Island City Brewery Company (65 E Front St, Winona). Participants will discuss The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie. If you would like a copy of the book ordered for you, please click here to register. In The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian, “budding cartoonist Junior leaves his troubled school on the Spokane Indian Reservation to attend an all-white farm town school where the only other Indian is the school mascot” – From Publisher.

Then attend Book Bingo: Special Edition on Thursday, October 5th at 5:30PM in Peter’s Biergarten (54 E 3rd St, Winona). Participants will play multiple rounds of bingo in various styles and could win one of the top thirteen banned or challenged books of 2022. In the event of rain, Book Bingo: Special Edition will be canceled.
