Event Series: Bilingual Storytime

Bilingual Storytime

October 3 @ 10:00 am - 10:30 am

Bilingual storytime
September 19 and October 3 at 10 AM

Join us this fall for two special Bilingual Storytime celebrations that highlight Mexican folk art, cultural traditions, and community creativity.

Saturday, September 19 – Hispanic Heritage Month Storytime
We’ll enjoy a bilingual story with Ms. Gloria and a hands-on craft where families can create papel picado–inspired flags and colorful skull decorations. Select pieces made during this program will be saved and incorporated into the library’s Día de Muertos altar*, adding a meaningful touch created by our community.

Saturday, October 3 – Día de Muertos Storytime
In October, we’ll read a story about Día de Muertos and offer an optional sugar skull decorating activity for families who’d like to stay. Finished sugar skulls may also become part of the library’s altar*, continuing the connection between our stories, our community, and this cherished tradition.

*The Día de los Muertos altar in the library invites families to celebrate heritage and remembrance together, highlighting the library’s commitment to cultural education and community engagement. Gloria Alatorre will be putting together the Día de Muertos altar on the library’s second floor. She has been offering Spanish/English storytimes at the library for many years. Her heritage is rooted in Mexico, but she resides now in Winona and enjoys sharing her culture with as many people as she can.
