Lairds' Legacy Documentary Premiere

On January 21, 1899, the Winona Free Public Library was presented to the City of Winona by local lumber baron, William Laird. Join us in celebrating his legacy 125 years later with a documentary showing of Laird’s Legacy: A History of the Winona Public Library. Filmed by local documentarian, Mary Farrell, and based on the book Laird’s Legacy: A History of the Winona Public Library by Greg Gaut, the film will debut to the public with three different showings:

  • Monday, January 22nd at 7pm **EVENT FULL**
  • Thursday, January 25th at 7pm **EVENT FULL**
  • Saturday, January 27th at 11am

All showings will take place at the Winona Public Library.

During the January 22nd and January 25th showings, the original 5th Street front doors will open at 6:30pm along with the accessible Johnson Street entrance. A 15-minute historic tour will be offered shortly after doors open. Have a snack and light beverage and shop Winona Public Library merchandise as well as special anniversary items. The film will begin promptly at 7pm with a question-and-answer session with Mary Farrell and library staff following the film. Both showings are free to the public but do require a ticket.

Tickets are available at https://wpllairdslegacy.brownpapertickets.com.

The January 27th showing will be held in the Central Exchange Room.

This project was funded in part or whole with funds from the Friends of the Winona Public Library, Winona Foundation, and a SELCO Community Collaboration Grant which is funded by the Arts, Cultural, and Heritage Amendment.
