Teen Thursdays

On select Thursdays, join us at the Library for hands-on activities and crafts. These programs are open to ages 11-17, no prior experience necessary. Registration for each program is required at the links below.

June 13, 2-3:30 PM: Design a Keychain!keychain

In this program you will design, paint, sand, drill and construct your own gourd keychains! Rachel Pauli, local gourd artist, will teach you how to decorate a gourd shard with watercolor and alcohol inks, turning it into a useable keychain.

June 27, 2-3 PM: Spray Dye Tote Bag

Using tie dye and stencils, craft your own unique tote bag! All materials will be provided. Please dress in clothes that you don’t mind getting dye on.

July 18, 2-3:30 PM: Watercolor Pet Portrait 

Turn your pets into pop-art style creations! Willomina Art Studio hand draws each pet onto a 16×20″ canvas and then teaches a step-by-step class with fun, vibrant colors! No painting experience required! Please follow the instructions on the registration form to submit your pet photo. Sign-up will close a week prior to the program date in order to allow the artist to prepare the canvases.

Start your week with Monday morning exploration! Beginning June 10, join us Mondays at 10 AM for hands-on crafts, activities, and experiences. This series is great for ages 6 and up. Children under age 9 must be accompanied by an adult. Locations may change. No registration required.

Free lunch will be provided for youth under age 18 from the Winona Area Public Schools Lunch Bus at 11 AM. On dates where we host at the library, the Lunch Bus will still be at Windom Park at 11 AM.

June 10: Design a pocket-sized nature collector at Windom Park

June 17: Plants & Their Helpers with Happy Dancing Turtle at Windom Park
Why are plants important? We’ll do an interactive activity to see how plants are pollinated and then see how far certain animals can disperse seeds. We’ll make our own “helicopter seeds” to throw and spin.

June 24: Bats in the Blufflands with Whitewater State Park at Windom Park
Learn about Minnesota’s bat population and the dreaded White Nose Syndrome that threatens their world. We will separate fact from fiction about these fascinating little animals.

July 1: Create a clay creature at the Library

July 8: Lego Free Play at the Library

July 15: Winona Area Public Schools Herky Bus at Windom Park

July 22: Nature Bracelets: Weaving with Natural Fibers with Whitewater State Park at Windom Park
The early Indigenous people of the region crafted tools from resources of the forest. Explore some of these early technologies, including how to transform plant fibers into twine. Participants will make a bracelet to take home!

Bilingual Storytime

Drop by the Youth Services Department of the Winona Public Library on June 8, July 6, and August 3 at 10 AM to enjoy a Saturday storytime in Spanish and English! We’ll read a book or two together and then complete a related craft after. No registration is required, and this is great for all ages.
