Bilingual Storytime

Drop by the Youth Services Department of the Winona Public Library on June 8, July 6, and August 3 at 10 AM to enjoy a Saturday storytime in Spanish and English! We’ll read a book or two together and then complete a related craft after. No registration is required, and this is great for all ages.

¡Pase por el Departamento de Servicios Juveniles de la Winona Public Library el 8 de junio, 6 de julio y 3 de agosto a las 10 a. m. para disfrutar de la hora de cuentos del sábado en español e inglés! Leeremos uno o dos libros juntos y luego completaremos una manualidad relacionada. No es necesario registrarse y es ideal para todas las edades.

Start your week with Monday morning exploration! Beginning June 10, join us Mondays at 10 AM for hands-on crafts, activities, and experiences. This series is great for ages 6 and up. Children under age 9 must be accompanied by an adult. Locations may change. No registration required.

Free lunch will be provided for youth under age 18 from the Winona Area Public Schools Lunch Bus at 11 AM. On dates where we host at the library, the Lunch Bus will still be at Windom Park at 11 AM.

Bookworms Book Club (Gr. 4-6)

Read and discuss a book while enjoying activities with your friends and WPL Youth staff! Book club meets every other Wednesday at 11 AM on the library’s 2nd floor. This book club is open to youth entering grades 4 through 6 in the Fall, strong 3rd grade readers welcome. Registration is required at the links below. You can stop by the Youth department to pick up the book once registered.

June 17: Plants & Their Helpers with Happy Dancing Turtle at Windom Park
Why are plants important? We’ll do an interactive activity to see how plants are pollinated and then see how far certain animals can disperse seeds. We’ll make our own “helicopter seeds” to throw and spin.

June 24: Bats in the Blufflands with Whitewater State Park at Windom Park
Learn about Minnesota’s bat population and the dreaded White Nose Syndrome that threatens their world. We will separate fact from fiction about these fascinating little animals.

July 1: Design a pocket-sized nature collector at Library

July 8: Lego Free Play at Library

July 15: Winona Area Public Schools Herky Bus at Windom Park

July 22: Nature Bracelets: Weaving with Natural Fibers with Whitewater State Park at Windom Park
The early Indigenous people of the region crafted tools from resources of the forest. Explore some of these early technologies, including how to transform plant fibers into twine. Participants will make a bracelet to take home!

Early Explorers at Windom Park

On select Thursdays at 10 AM, we will gather our youngest learners to have fun and explore! WPL Youth staff have activities planned that will not only be fun for your child but also help them to build early learning and fine motor skills. No registration required. Free lunch will be provided for youth under age 18 from the Winona Area Public Schools Lunch Bus at 11 AM.

All programs are hosted at Windom Park and begin at 10 AM.

June 20: Nature Knowledge with Nora from Happy Dancing Turtle
Birds: Learn about bird behaviors and then do an egg hunt in the park to match the proper egg with the bird! After, participants will make bird puppets to pick up “worms” in the grass.

Wiggle, Giggle, Stomp, Stomp, Stomp!

Winona Public Library 2nd Floor

Master storyteller, Katie Knutson, brings stories, songs, and poems for littlest listeners that will have parents and children dancing, chanting, clapping, and stomping along! Katie will bring along some of her puppet friends to help tell the stories!

This program is in partnership with the Sandbar Storytelling Festival.

Paul Bunyan & Babe the Blue Ox Find the Blues

Saturday, June 29, 10 AM
Winona Public Library 2nd Floor

Come follow Paul Bunyan and Babe the Blue Ox in this musical storytime that will take us from Lake Itasca all the way to New Orleans! Paul and Babe will make new friends and learn about many different styles of music. You will hear a variety of music including baroque, classical, blues, and jazz as Paul and Babe travel down the Mississippi River in search of the blues! This program is free and open to the public.
